We are dedicating this International Bereaved Mother’s Day to YOU, brave mama and to all the other beautiful bereaved mothers around the world who have experienced the unimaginable. May peace and beauty be yours always. Whoever you are, wherever you are in the world, wherever you are in your grief, whatever your spiritual beliefs are, this Sunday May 6th at 10pm Perth Western Australian Time (Google the time difference to your local time) we will come together on social media (instagram and facebook via live feeds) and in spirit at the exact same time in all our different towns across the globe to spend 1 minute in silent reflection to honour all the bereaved mother hearts of this world. We will do this by taking the time to sit quietly and place our hands over our hearts, the place where we hold our the children who are no longer with us. At the end of the minute’s silence, the International Bereaved Mother’s Day Poem by Angie M. Yingst will be read.
If you would like to be a part of this act of solidarity (even if it means getting up in the middle of the night to do so) You can join the live reflection through my visiting either my instagram and facebook pages. The videos will go live on both of them. Set your alarms for 20 minutes prior to the time of reflection to give you enough time to join in and connect with everyone. After the official minute’s silence and poetry reading we will have some time to chat with each other. I look forward to bringing some people on video as well.
This Sunday, share the love you have for your children. Speak their names, write their names, sing their names, paint their names. Let their light shine through you. May their beauty be shared far and wide on this special day. Share some thoughtful words, a poem, song lyrics, a story, a love letter, a painting, a photograph, whatever it is, just make it something beautiful and share some loving kindness in honour of all the women whose hearts have been cracked wide open by love and devastation.
Together by sharing the love we have for our children, we touch the hearts of those who thought they were alone. We hold up a lantern of light in the woods for others. We take hold of their hands and we stand together as a tribe of sisters, and oh how we are mighty!
Take a moment to share our Mother Hearts video online with your loved ones and support groups. Please feel welcome to use the hashtags #bereavedmothersday #motherheartsproject #whathealsyou
The International Bereaved Mother’s Day Poem
Though I lose my petals
I am still a flower.
We grow together,
in a garden bed
of ash and tears,
heartbreak and love.
Whispered support blows
towards our delicate beauty,
crying nourishes our shared roots,
and the warmth of our compassion
heals the winter of our grief.
Though we have lost a petal,
we are still flowers,
lush and full together
in a garden of hope.
