WELCOME TO THE MOTHER HEARTS PROJECT FOR 2017
To honour this International Bereaved Mother’s Day, we launched this special short film titled “We Carry Them In Our Hearts”. The film is intended to help give our greater society a glimpse into the everyday life of a bereaved mother. 1200 + bereaved mothers from around the globe submitted film and photographs of themselves. We were only able to feature around 200 of them. We wish we could have featured them all. The theme for the film is “We Carry Them In Our Hearts” inspired by the e.e. cummings poem I Carry Your Heart With Me. We wanted to show as many different emotions and stages of grief as possible throughout this film and we threaded them all together with a certain action performed by each mother. The action was simply each mother placing her hands over the space where she holds her child, her heart. That place where we carry all of the hurt, the fear, the worry, the yearning, the love, the healing and the hope.

Beautiful mothers, I see your resolve, your courage, your fear and heartache, your joys and sorrows. I am amazed at your ability to stand so tall and strong when you feel so weak and worn out. The reality of motherhood is that it is often brutal. It is a wonderfully, horrible, beautiful, frightening adventure that once embarked on, never comes to an end. All us warrior mothers, in whatever shape or form that might be, may we come together and reach out to each other in kindness and compassion. So many of us around the world are hurting badly. Let there be no comparisons of grief in this project, let there only be support for one another. We are all here to give our babies and children a legacy of love, so let us make them proud and do just that.
I CARRY YOUR HEART WITH ME
my heart) i am never without it (anywhere
i go you go, my dear; and whatever is done
by only me is your doing, my darling)

and whatever a sun will always sing is youhere is the deepest secret nobody knows
(here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud
and the sky of the sky of a tree called life; which grows
higher than the soul can hope or mind can hide)
and this is the wonder that’s keeping the stars aparti carry your heart (i carry it in my heart)
