At Luminous Light we are really passionate about helping women experiencing the loss of a baby to heal. Research shows that the way you are treated by health professionals when you experience a loss dictates how you will experience the grieving process. So with that being said we think that it is absolutely necessary that every woman who experiences the loss of her baby in hospital is given the love and care that she deserves… The girls and I that have also experienced a the death of a baby int he first trimester of pregnancy asked ourselves what would have been really helpful to us at that time as we were being sent home from the hospital.
And so we created the Luminous Light Care Pack
We all agreed that a small care pack would have been perfect. We didn’t want a huge bag of “Hey, my baby just died!”. We just wanted something discreet, something to fit in our handbag. We decided that a pocket pack of tissues was an absolute must. While there are tissues in hospital, you may not have any in your car for the trip home. We did a little research and found that cranberry tea helps with cramping and chamomile tea helps with emotions so we make sure at least one of these is included in each pack. Because we burn candles every evening under the Luminous Light Tree we felt it would be lovely to include a scented candle for a quiet time of peaceful reflection. We include a small pack of flower seeds for the mother to plant in memory of her baby. Lastly we like to include a small keepsake in memory of the little baby who will be so missed. This is usually a small handmade white clay ornament. Something symbolic. Butterflies and dragonflies are always a sweet idea. In each bag is a leaflet with a message of love to the receiver and our website address to find support and healing. So these are the basic items we always include in our miscarriage packs.
Below is an example of one of our care packs. There are many organizations around the world where you can donate to them and they will make up a care pack and donate it to a hospital. While we think this is a really wonderful idea we always recommend that if you ever get the chance to make up a care package yourself you should give it a go. They mean so much to the women who receive them and what you may not realise is that the act of generosity and love that you will give will also help in your healing process.
Contact your local hospital and if they are willing to accept some of your care packages get a group of your friends together and make a day of it. Don’t worry about numbers, like how much things will cost and how many will you be able to make. Dont have any goals, just make what you can with LOVE. And that will be more than you know!
